Deryk Engelland Extended for 3 Years

The Pens have announced Monday morning that they have given defenseman Deryk Engelland a 3 year contract extension worth approximately 1.7 million total. Engelland, 28, was signed to a 1 year deal at the end of last season and was to become a UFA at the end of the year.

Great deal if you ask me. Engelland's stock rises for every fight he wins and he was no doubt on the watchlist of a few NHL teams already. Also, unlike some heavyweights like Godard, Engo offers himself as a capable NHL d-man who can start nearly every night without bringing down the overall performance of the team.

The money isn't bad. It comes out to about 566k per year which really isn't bad considering the 750k that Godard makes. I think now that unless Godard finds his "inner-scoring touch" in the next few months that this will be his last year in the black and gold.

Let's Go Pens
