Rumors Swirling About Possible McCutchen Extension

The rumors started last night with a Tweet by Dejan Kovacevic of the Post Gazette and has now been reported on all over the internet. The Pittsburgh Pirates are reportedly talking about a long term extension with Centerfielder Andrew McCutchen.

Any deal would likely buy out McCutchen's arbitration years plus add a few years on afterwords. The current speculation is that the deal is probably in the $50 million dollar range.

There is also speculation that the deal would just buy out his arbitration years. This, in my mind, a pointless exercise. It does nothing to keep Cutch in a Pirates uniform any longer than he already would be.

At $50 million though that tells me there would have to be extra years on this extension.
